Give the Gift of ButterfliesImage

Enthusiasm. Optimism. Anticipation. Butterflies. You know the feeling?  The first day of school, the promise of an exciting new year, butterflies in your stomach?

To prepare a child for the first day of school, families spend $60 – $100, a cost which can pose a tremendous hardship--especially if there is more than one school-aged child in the family. On average, an elementary school teacher spends $1,000 each year of his/her own money to provide supplies for his/her students.

ASBO’s Gift of Butterflies program seeks to provide underprivileged students in the host city of the ASBO annual meeting with the school supplies and support they need to start the school year ready and excited to learn—with butterflies in their stomachs.

Communities in Schools of Arizona

This year, we are thrilled to partner with Communities in Schools of Arizona, an organization focused on surrounding students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.  Nearly sixty percent of the students served by Communities in Schools of Arizona are living below the poverty line; ten percent are homeless or living in group homes; fifteen percent have limited English proficiency.  Communities in Schools of Arizona connects these at-risk students with everything from school supplies to tutors, college tours to college readiness, after school programming to housing resources.  The combination of these resources addresses barriers that often hinder student success in school and beyond.

Demonstrate your commitment to making a difference!
Talking the talk is one thing. You need to walk the walk. Give the gift of butterflies. In thanks for your generosity, following the AM&E, ASBO will publicly recognize program participants on the ASBO Website, in a house ad in our School Business Affairs magazine and via a press release to be shared with the ASBO membership and local media.

Thinking of participating? Please let us know if you plan to participate in the donation program so we can arrange for the transport of donated items. Contact ASBO’s Lisa Sparrow with the approximate size, quantity, and type of item to be donated. We’ll take care of the rest!

Give students butterflies for learning. Help them experience the metamorphosis that only education can provide. Make a difference.
