ASBO International Welcomes New Executive Director

Ashburn, VA – November 20, 2023 – The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the selection of James M. Rowan, CAE, SFO, as the association’s new executive director. Rowan will join the headquarters team on January 2, 2024.

“Jim brings an extensive background in association management and membership development, public relations, advocacy, and strategic communications,” ASBO chief operations officer Siobhán McMahon says. “His commitment to education, to ASBO, and to the school business profession is clear, and we look forward to his leadership as we continue to move the association and the school business profession forward.”

For the past seven years, Rowan has been the executive director of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials. Prior to taking that position, he served as a school business official in Talawanda, Fairfield City, Princeton City, and Fairbanks Local school districts, as well as the fiscal officer for Oxford Township and CEO/administrator of Colerain Township in Ohio.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he also served as assistant auditor for the State of Ohio and was director of school programs for the Hylant Group.

Rowan is a past president of the Ohio Association of School Business Officials and of the Association of School Business Officials International. He has been recognized with several awards, including the ASBO International Eagle Award. He obtained his SFO from ASBO and CAE from ASAE.

“I am honored and grateful for this opportunity to serve ASBO International as the association’s executive director,” Rowan says. “As ASBO International’s leadership in school business continues to grow, so does our commitment to empowering our members. Through our advocacy and programs, we will continue to ensure that our members have the knowledge, skills, resources, and opportunities to effectively serve their school systems. I am looking forward to collaborating with ASBO’s Board of Directors, staff, members, and partners to serve school business leaders and their students worldwide.”
