Safeguard Your School Facilities and Your Students

Thanks to a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, ASBO International is pleased to offer the services of the Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Advisory Group.

John Gayetsky, environmental management specialist, and Kathy Prosser, environmental program facilitator, will work with you to:

Provide consultative solutions to address IEQ concerns
Educate and train staff on IEQ issues
Develop and implement effective IEQ management programs

Understand the Challenge
The impact of IEQ on health and performance

The concentration of pollutants inside classrooms and school facilities is typically two to five times greater than that found outdoors. Consequently, these indoor settings run a significantly greater risk of triggering asthma attacks and other adverse health effects. Asthma in young children has risen nearly 60% in the last 15 years, affecting nearly 1 in 13 school-aged children. Asthma is responsible for a staggering 14 million missed school days per year. Poor IEQ can also reduce our ability to perform various mental tasks requiring concentration, calculation, and memory.

Effective IEQ management can provide a healthy indoor environment conducive to learning, student and teacher health, higher attendance, and increased school funding through positive community support.
