Attendees will discuss an “all-hazards” approach to national school safety and its impact on both schools and district headquarters, while gaining a better understanding of the importance of district-wide communication and coordination during critical incidents. We’ll also focus on valuable information about liability and legal considerations, as well as how to handle new and emerging threats to school districts, such as cyber extortion, bullying, hazing, and off-site threats during field trips.
 
Learning Objectives: 1. Outline the elements of an all hazards approach to school safety and how it applies to communication and coordination in your district. 2.  Discuss common legal and liability concerns for school districts and methods for addressing them. 3. Identify emerging threats to school districts and describe effective options for handling them.

School business officials have the power to help those involved in tragic situations to move forward by offering logistical and emotional support. Whether it’s a death in the family, a missing person, a medical emergency, or natural disaster, research indicates that the most critical need of those involved is the support of the people around them. Hear from an expert with the Carnival Cruise Line CareTeam who specializes in training those responsible for meeting survivors’ needs. This session will promote awareness and provide strategies for supporting your community.
 
Learning Objectives: 1. Discuss how to prepare oneself and one’s school district to provide effective logistical and emotional support in times of tragedy or crisis. 2. Provide examples of frequently encountered urgent needs of survivors and identify steps that can be taken to meet those needs. 3. Describe strategies for promoting awareness and establishing community support in preparation for a disaster.

CPE Information
ASBO International is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have the final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be submitted to the National Registry of CPE Sponsors through www.nasbaregistry.org.
 
The instructional delivery method for educational sessions is Group - Live, and no prerequisites or advance preparations are necessary for participation, unless otherwise indicated. ASBO staff monitors attendance at educational sessions offering CPE credit. Individuals who have not stayed for the requisite amount of time should not claim credit.

CAE Information
ASBO International is a CAE Approved Provider. The Executive Leadership Forum meets the requirements for fulfilling the professional development requirements to earn or maintain the Certified Association Executive credential. Each session that qualifies for CAE credit clearly identifies the number of CAE credits granted for full participation, and we will maintain records of your participation in accordance with CAE policies.
