SCHOOL BUSINESS OFFICIALS RECOGNIZED FOR INNOVATIVE DISTRICT PROGRAMS

Reston, VA—June 12, 2016—School business officials are continually challenged to ensure their district’s limited resources are used effectively to provide high-quality education in an engaging, secure learning environment. In recognition of their ability to be resourceful and innovative in developing solutions to problems facing school districts today, the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2016 Pinnacle Awards.

This year’s Pinnacle of Excellence Award honoree is John W. Hutchison, CPA, SFO, chief financial and operations officer for Olathe Public Schools in Olathe, KS. Hutchison developed a capital improvement planning process that engaged district and community stakeholders and resulted in the passage of the largest bond referendum in district history by the largest approval rate. As the recipient of the Pinnacle of Excellence Award, he will receive $5,000, Virco Inc. furniture for his school valued at $5,000, an all-expenses paid trip to the ASBO International Annual Meeting & Expo in Phoenix, AZ, and a crystal Pinnacle Award.

The 2016 Pinnacle of Achievement Award winners, each of whom will receive $1,000 and a crystal Pinnacle Award, are:

  • Charles W. Brazeale, Ed.D., SFO, assistant superintendent and chief financial officer for the City of St. Charles School District, St. Charles, MO, for increasing the quality of employee healthcare and reducing costs through an onsite health clinic.
  • Frank J. Frazee, CPA, school business administrator for Ocean County Vocational Technical School, Toms River, NJ, for spearheading a project that provides opportunities for students to develop college- and career-ready skills in a hands-on environment.
  • Leslie J. Peterson, MBA, assistant superintendent for finance and management services for Arlington Public Schools, Arlington, VA, for building community engagement and understanding in the complex school district budget process.

Each year, the Pinnacle Awards are presented to four school business administrators who have implemented innovative practices to improve the efficiency of schools and school districts and to make a difference in the education of young people.

The Pinnacle Awards are sponsored by Virco Inc., America’s leading furniture and equipment manufacturer and supplier for the K–12 market. Active in ASBO International for more than 50 years, Virco is proud to honor outstanding practices and new ideas in the school business profession.
