ASBO Leaders Gather to Solve Education Issues

Ashburn, VA — September 26, 2018 — School safety, healthcare reform, and effective leadership were among the key topics of the 2018 Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) Annual Meeting & Expo held in Kissimmee, Florida, September 21–24.

The conference, which drew hundreds of school business leaders from around the world, provided education finance professionals with four days of professional development, collaboration, and opportunities to preview programs, services, and resources for efficient and effective school district operations and management.

The conference kicked off on Friday by offering workshops and seminars on such topics as emerging threats to school safety, technology and the law, and best practices in financial management. Over the next three days, participants could choose from sessions focused on such topics as accountability and transparency, the Every Student Succeeds Act, fraud detection, student transportation issues, advocacy, compliance, community engagement, and school nutrition programs.

Keynote speakers were branding and communications expert Sally Hogshead, who discussed how to communicate your best self to others, and Colonel Arthur J. Athens, USMC (Ret.), who urged participants to be more effective at the fulcrum point of leadership.

“The ASBO International Annual Meeting & Expo provides a unique opportunity for school business officials from a diverse range of school systems to come together and share challenges and solutions, learn from practitioners and experts, and participate in high-quality professional development,” says Siobhán McMahon, ASBO International chief operations officer. “The knowledge they gain and the connections they establish help them contribute to the overall success of their district and, in turn, promote student achievement.”

ASBO International’s 2019 Annual Meeting & Expo will be held in National Harbor, Maryland, October 25–28. For more information, visit asbointl.org/AnnualMeeting.
