ASBO International Awards District Leaders Highest Honor in Profession

Ashburn, VA – July 15, 2019 – The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2019 Eagle Awards, which recognize K-12 business professionals for their exemplary leadership and contributions to their districts and the school business profession.

ASBO International’s 2019 International Eagle Award recipient is Terry Haas, CPA, RSBO, chief financial officer for Mooresville (NC) Graded School District. Throughout her 30-year career in school business, Haas has built a reputation as a steadfast leader who carries out her school business responsibilities with a personal touch. Whether it’s ensuring fiscal integrity within the school district, training and mentoring current and future school business officials, overseeing her district’s afterschool and school nutrition programs, or helping organizations be good financial stewards, Haas is dedicated to serving others. She will receive a $5,000 college scholarship to present to a high school student from her district.

ASBO International is also pleased to announce three Distinguished Eagle Award recipients, who will each receive a $2,500 college scholarship to present to a high school student from their district:

Jason Hoffman, SFO, chief operations officer/chief financial officer for the Jefferson City (MO) School District. Hoffman is considered a collaborative change-agent, working with his colleagues across the district and in the community to ensure a high-performing, fiscally sound organization. His leadership in the areas of student learning, collaboration, and stewardship has garnered him recognition as an exemplary professional committed to serving the profession, strengthening relationships with the community, and meeting the needs of all students.

Tammie McGarr, CPA, chief financial officer for Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District, Starkville, MS. Her depth of financial knowledge, integrity, and communication skills helped McGarr lead Starkville School District’s merger with Oktibbeha County School District in 2015. In less than four years, she has overhauled the district’s accounting practices and established and implemented internal controls. A mentor to her colleagues around the state, McGarr is committed to ensuring she and her staff are always on top of the latest school business issues.

Robin Zimmerman, assistant superintendent for business for the Peekskill City (NY) School District. Zimmerman is keenly aware of how every aspect of the business office reaches the classroom and works diligently to transcend department boundaries to contribute to educational planning for student learning. She works tirelessly—often behind the scenes—to ensure all students have the resources they need not only to achieve, but to have a better chance to succeed in life.

“These Eagle Award recipients epitomize the qualities of leadership, achievement, and commitment,” ASBO International Executive Director David J. Lewis says. “We are proud to honor these extraordinary individuals for going above and beyond to ensure all students have the resources they need to succeed now and in the future.”

The Eagle Awards are sponsored by ASBO International Strategic Partner, AXA. “AXA appreciates the opportunity to honor and celebrate the 2019 Eagle Award winners,” Fred Makonnen, AXA Divisional Vice President, Head of Retail 403(b) Sales & Strategic Partnerships says. “These exemplary school business professionals remind us all of the importance of contributing to our schools and our communities. We applaud the 2019 recipients for their dedication and leadership.”

All award recipients will be formally recognized at ASBO International’s 2019 Annual Conference & Expo, October 25–28, in National Harbor, MD. Learn more about the ASBO International Eagle Awards at asbointl.org/Eagle.
