School Business Officials Recognized for Innovative Solutions

Ashburn, VA — June 27, 2020 — The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) is proud to announce the recipients of ASBO International’s 2020 Pinnacle Awards, which recognize innovative school business officials for their resourcefulness and creativity in solving challenges facing school districts today.

The ASBO International 2020 Pinnacle of Excellence Award recipient is Jimmy Hay, director of finance for Paola Unified School District 368 in Paola, Kansas, for a back-to-school readiness event that provides resources and supplies for economically disadvantaged students so they can start the school year equipped to learn.

The 2020 ASBO International Pinnacle of Achievement Award recipients are:

  • Jim Anderson, chief financial officer for Anchorage School District in Alaska, for a program that provides housing and an opportunity for high school students in a neighboring rural district to attend academic and career and technical education classes in Anchorage.
  • Kevin Hegarty, chief financial officer for Laveen Elementary School District in Arizona, for a project that involved an innovative land swap and series of agreements with several state and local entities to procure a much-needed school site.
  • Ryan Pendleton, chief financial officer/treasurer for Akron Public Schools in Ohio, for a direct primary healthcare provider model that generates cost savings, improves employee health, and provides more resources for classrooms.

The Pinnacle Awards showcase replicable projects and practices that allow district business leaders to exchange and implement new ideas to better support their schools and communities. The awards are sponsored by Virco, Inc.

“School business leaders are among the most creative and resourceful education professionals around,” ASBO International Executive Director David J. Lewis says. “We need look no further than these Pinnacle Award recipients to see the power of ingenuity, teamwork, and determination. All Pinnacle honorees will be recognized with crystal Pinnacle Awards. In addition, Pinnacle of Excellence Award recipient Jimmy Hay’s district will receive $5,000 in furniture from Virco, Inc.
