Brian Allen is currently the Chief Financial and Operations Officer for the Worcester (MA) Public Schools. He has been the lead School Business Official in Worcester for the past 17 years. He has worked in Worcester his entire 25 year career, including previous positions as a Senior Budget Analyst for the City of Worcester, Business Manager of the Worcester Vocational Schools, and Assistant Business Manager for the Worcester Public Schools.

Brian is an active member of Massachusetts ASBO, including serving on the Board of Directors and he is a Past President of the Association. Brian has been recognized with the President’s Award and his district has been a recipient of an Operational and Cost Efficiency Award for savings achieved through special education programs. Brian is an instructor of a Managing Financial Resources graduate level course as part of MASBO’s state licensure program for aspiring School Business Officials. Brian is a frequent presenter on school funding, budget transparency, and legislative topics at various statewide conferences.

Brian has been active in ASBO International for the past ten years. He is currently a six-time recipient of the Meritorious Budget Award and was also a Distinguished Eagle Award recipient in 2013. Brian is currently the Content Area Leader for Legislative Affairs for the Annual Conference and Expo Committee.

Question 1: All professional membership organizations strive to grow membership, but current trends indicate that membership numbers are decreasing nationwide. Why do you think that is? What would you recommend that ASBO International do to grow membership?

Question 2: Public education is under constant scrutiny, and ensuring a transparent and ethical organization is imperative to garnering and maintaining public trust. What are the key characteristics of an ethical organization?

Question 3: The success of ASBO International is closely linked with the success of its state, provincial, and international affiliates. How can ASBO International further strengthen relationships and enhance collaboration with its affiliates?
