The Value of Membership

"I could not have survived 30 years in school business without the support I've received from ASBO. No matter how much you may think your problem is unique, it's not. I've always found support from colleagues facing the same issues no matter where they work, and I've shared solutions. We have a lot to learn from one another, so I value my memberships in Tri-State ASBO, New Hampshire ASBO, Vermont ASBO, and ASBO International."

Candidate for Director

Karen Wiesman, Ed.D., CPA
Associate Superintendent for Business and Finance
Mansfield Independent School District
Mansfield, Texas

Dr. Karen Wiesman serves as the Associate Superintendent of Business and Finance for the Mansfield Independent School District. The district serves 36,000+ students in Mansfield, Texas. Wiesman also served as a school district external auditor for the first 24 years of her career before moving into school administration with roles that have included director of finance, controller, assistant superintendent, and associate superintendent. She has also served as an associate director at an Education Service Center (ESC) supporting forty-three school districts.

Her family’s involvement in public education provided her a background and experience of all areas of public education and school business: dad was a school superintendent, mom was a school secretary and school tax collector, grandmother worked in the school nutrition program, and several relatives were school teachers.

Her dad was a first generation college graduate that generated a passion for education in him. Because of his encouragement, she went back to school after leaving public accounting and completed not only a master’s degree in education administration, but also a doctorate in educational leadership. Her decision to complete a master in educational administration and doctorate in educational leadership was intentional in order to fully understand the educational culture and climate that we serve as school business officials.

Dr. Wiesman is honored and humbled to be running for the ASBO International Board of Directors and continue her service to improve and support public education.
