My name is LaShahn Gaines, and I was born in Washington, D.C. I have served as an energetic, visionary leader for 27 years. Since 2005, I have served as the CFO for Spotsylvania County Schools (SCS). In this capacity, I oversee a 350 million dollar budget that supports 24,000 students and 3,500 employees. In the pursuit for excellence, my educational background and professional credentials are evidenced by a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Accounting, a Certified Public Accountant license and being a Certified Administrator of School Finance and Operations. My distinctive leadership is substantiated by several prestigious awards: 2017 ASBO Distinguished Eagle Award, Robert Lynn Canady Lifetime of Service Award from the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals, and DC Government CFO of the Year Award, and budget awards from ASBO and GFOA. I have also provided statewide leadership to Virginia ASBO as Immediate Past President (2019), President (2018), Vice President (2017), Treasurer (2016), and Director (2014-2015).
